Summer is all about the outdoors! Pool parties, grill outs and good old-fashioned get togethers are just some of our favorite things to do. As much as we love to be outside, I knew when we purchased our historic home we would have to add an outdoor space. Because our home did not have a porch (or even the layout to build one), we had to get creative. We decided to build a patio with pergola in the backyard, and have been working to make it an outdoor oasis. We wanted a space not only for entertaining, but also for daily hanging.
I’m sure you would agree that Summer is the perfect season and reason to have guests over. If you’re like me, you like to decorate for every season. Your tablescape is an easy way of changing your decor up without having to redo a whole room! It makes a big statement and creates a focal point for the space its in. Today, I am teaming up with some talented bloggers to give you some major Summer Tablescape inspo! If you are joining me from Leanna at Life by Leanna thank you for hopping over!
I don’t know if its our newly finished pergola space or just the gorgeous weather, but I decided to create an outdoor tablescape that I hope will inspire you to do the same for your next summer party. If the temps are great and the sun is shining, why not pull your dining room table outside to spruce up that space? It may just give your get-together that extra WOW factor you’ve been looking for! It really is quite simple to make an area look extra special.
I wanted my outdoor space to flow well with my indoor theme. I am a huge lover of vintage pieces, but also have an appreciation for the new. I decided to mix old items with new ones to give this space the same character you will find throughout my home. I pulled an 1800s farm table from our breakfast room and placed it in front of our patio sectional. Instead of covering the beauty of the table, I used a vintage lace table cloth gathered up in the middle to serve as a runner. I incorporated some vintage dishes with new ones and a vintage picnic basket with a new basket serving tray. This tray from HomeGoods was perfect to hold all my “extras’ for the day. The combination of old and new brought about the perfect amount of vintage vibes, while feeling fresh and modern at the same time.
Layering is a decorator’s best kept secret! The key to cozy? Layering! The key to a fuller look in any space? Layering! As you can see, I layered the centerpiece quite easily. First, I used a tablecloth turned runner (be creative) as a base. Then, I used a faux leaf garland layered on top of the runner. Because it wasn’t full enough, I picked branches from our tree in the backyard and mixed them with the faux. I bet you didn’t even notice that. Ha! That was a total win and cost effective, too. Last, I used some fake lemons from HomeGoods that look and feel real. I layered them on top of the garland to give it that finishing touch and perfect pop of summer color. See how that works? It created the perfect full centerpiece with not a lot of cost or effort. I also layered dishes throughout. If you look in the basket serving tray from HomeGoods, you will see 5 layers: Basket, doily, plates, limes and bowls. It really is quite simple and fun to do. HomeGoods was a total score in creating this look! I found those cute summer glasses, plates, pitcher and lemon tree from there as well. Not to mention the fun yellow pillows on the sofa. Its no secret I have a pillow obsession. HomeGoods is always my go-to store when on the hunt.
